NEET UG 2026: Result Awaited After the 21 June Re-Exam — What Happens Next

Status right now: The NEET UG 2026 re-examination concluded on 21 June 2026. NTA has not announced an official result date as of 2 July 2026 — any specific date circulating on social media is unofficial. The sequence from here: provisional answer key → objection window → final answer key → result → counselling.

Where NEET UG 2026 stands

NEET UG is the single national entrance exam for undergraduate medical admissions in India — MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BSMS and nursing seats across government and private institutions. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in pen-and-paper mode.

The 2026 cycle took an unusual turn: a re-examination was scheduled and completed on 21 June 2026. With the exam phase now closed, lakhs of candidates are waiting on the answer key and result. Because evaluation involves the provisional key, a paid objection window, and the final key before scores are computed, expect the gap between exam and result to run a few weeks.

How to estimate your score early: when the provisional answer key drops, download your recorded response sheet, match it against the key, and apply the marking scheme (+4 correct, −1 incorrect, 0 unattempted). If you find a wrong key entry, challenge it in the objection window — successful challenges change the final key for everyone.

What your scorecard will show

  • Total marks out of 720 and subject-wise scores (Physics, Chemistry, Biology).
  • Percentile and All India Rank (AIR) — the rank drives counselling, not raw marks.
  • Category rank and qualifying status against the category-wise cutoff percentile.

Verify every personal detail on the scorecard the day you download it; corrections are far easier before counselling registration begins.

Counselling: MCC and state quotas explained

NEET counselling runs on two parallel tracks, and you can participate in both:

1. MCC (All India) counselling

  • Covers the 15% All India Quota seats in state government colleges, plus 100% of seats in deemed universities, central universities, AIIMS, JIPMER and ESIC institutes.
  • Conducted online at mcc.nic.in in multiple rounds (Round 1, Round 2, Mop-up, Stray vacancy).

2. State counselling

  • Each state's medical education directorate fills the remaining 85% state quota seats and private college seats, using its own merit list built from NEET ranks.
  • Domicile rules apply — register in your home state as soon as its portal opens.

NEET UG 2026 FAQs

Has the NEET 2026 result date been announced?
No. As of 2 July 2026, NTA has not released an official result date. Treat any specific date you see on social media as unofficial until it appears on neet.nta.nic.in.
Can I challenge the answer key?
Yes. When the provisional key is published, NTA opens a paid objection window (historically ₹200 per question challenged). Subject experts review challenges; accepted ones are reflected in the final key used for results.
Do I need separate registrations for MCC and state counselling?
Yes — MCC counselling (mcc.nic.in) and your state's counselling are separate processes with separate registrations, fees and choice-filling. Most candidates should do both to maximise options.
Is NEET compulsory for studying MBBS abroad?
Yes. Under NMC rules, Indian students need a NEET qualification to pursue MBBS abroad and later appear for the licensing pathway in India.
